The Bassett Women
Published in Paperback by Ohio Univ Pr (Trd) (August, 1985)
Average review score:

Somebody! Make this Movie! This is a fascinating account of pioneer life in the great American West through the eyes of three gutsy, gritty women. These gals could outride, outrope, outshoot and outwit most men and did so on many occasions. The romantic history of Ann and Josie Bassett is amazing: Ann with several husbands and Josie with four plus a couple of long term relationships -- all at a time when divorce was hardly whispered. But what really shines through is the absolute can do attitude of these women. It seems there was nothing they couldn't accomplish. The story would make a wonderful movie.

Beat Up a Cookie: An Ellie Bernstein/Lt. Peter Miller Mystery
Published in Hardcover by Walker & Co (March, 1999)
Average review score:

Sure to keep your hands out of the cookie jar!Having already read Throw Darts at a Cheesecake, I was eager to read another mystery mixing dieters and death - an an intriquing combination, to say the least. And....okay, I admit it, I'm a Weight Watchers member and,to put it bluntly, I was also looking for something to keep my mind off food. And guess what? This book worked - I lost 5 pounds in the time it took to finish the book, less than a week. Every time I wanted a doughnut or a chocolate eclair, I read another chapter. Having said that, I should add that you'll love this book even if you haven't counted a single calorie in your life. It is fun trying to find out who is killing the Great Dieters of America -and why. Now I just have to get my hands on Denise Dietz's other mysteries, so I can keep my eyes on the page - and my hands out of the cookie jar!

Beauty of Colorado
Published in Hardcover by LTA/Renaissance Publishing Company (October, 1992)
Average review score:

Colorado's The PlaceI am a teacher and I had to teach a history class to my students on Colorado History. I went to the Library and picked up the book Beauty of Colorado. It has so many interesting facts about Colorado and beautiful pictures that I decided I wanted to buy the book for the school library. I liked the book because it was so infomative and had many facts about Colorado. Also the pictures were nice size and full color. It covered the mountains, parks, plains, some history, people and places of Colorado. It is a short book of 79 pages but out of that I got several days Colorado History lessons from it. If you were considering moving to Colorado or wanted to know where to visit, this book would be a good one to buy.

Bessemer: A Sociological Perspective of the Chicano Barrio (Immigrant Communities and Ethnic Minorities in the United States and canada, No. 13)
Published in Hardcover by AMS Press (Duplicate of pubcode AMS) (December, 1991)
Average review score:

Straight from the BarrioAlthough I do not count this book as excellent, its thoughts and analysis are worth praising. The city of its focus is Pueblo, Colorado and within the spaces of this small-town-city can be found various barrios. Each one has its own personality. Each one has its flavor and spice. Each one has its struggles. Yet, Bessemer is the most apparent. Being in the middle of Pueblo, near the CF&I smoke stacks and next to highways in businesses, one has not seen Pueblo until they pass through Bessemer. I grew up near Bessemer and went to school in the barrio. My best friends are from there, I feel at home there. It is also the place where more Chicanos are pura Raza than I have been able to find anywhere else. It is a culturally rich and virtually unchanged neighborhood. This is where the Chicano lifestyle comes to definition. This is where the most celebrated holiday is Cinco de Mayo and Fiesta Day at the State Fair is a proud display. Reading the book gave me a chance to revisit my friends, la gente del bessemer. It gave me a chance to see the ganas (and lack of) and to revisit the Chicano Movement there which inspired my life. Thank you Pueblo! I miss you.

Best Easy Day Hikes Colorado Springs (FalconGuide)
Published in Paperback by Falcon Publishing Company (April, 1999)
Average review score:

best easy day hikes colorado springsI have lived in the area 23 years, knew there were hikes out there, but finally picked up the body and began hiking after checking this book out of the library. the hiking areas are diverse, plains, mountains, foothills. well documented and explained on distance, etc. I have other hiking books for the colorado springs area, but this is the first one I actually used. I think it's small size helps, easy to carry along, light and compact. ps I hate capital letters

Best of Colorado 4-Wheel Drive Roads
Published in Pamphlet by Outdoor Books & Maps (01 August, 1998)
Average review score:

Good Guide, but could give some more specific informationThis is a good guide to where to find trails but lacks enough information about difficulty and length of travel. I read a copy which I bough a while back at a gas station, and it is worth while to have since it has some trails which are not covered in anyother guide.

Best-Tasting Wild Plants of Colorado and the Rockies
Published in Paperback by Westcliffe Pub (May, 1998)
Average review score:

EXCELLENTI have read many books on the wild edibles of our Rocky Mountains, and have had very few compare to this one. This book not only gives DETAILED color photos of every plant listed, he also gives approximate dates (months) they are to be immature, mature, flowering, adn bearing fruit. He also gives potential lookalikes, cautions, uses, and special notes of other uses. This book is divided into three main sections. Low altitude plants, High altitude plants and the common toxic plants of the area. All the plants listed in all sections are fairly common and I am sure many people from enthusiasts to hikers/backpackers would find this information useful. In the back of the book, Seebeck also includes ideas of what type of recipies to use these plants in. The only reason I awarded four stars is because I wished there were more listed, like those ever present mountain weeds and grains.

Bicycling the Uncompahgre Plateau
Published in Paperback by Wayfinder Pr (May, 1988)
Average review score:

Good start! This guide is a good start to bicycling on the Uncompahgre Plateau. I would buy it again, but I wish it had more rides and was more thorough. But it's a great start, and it will get you out into some beautiful country!

The Birth of Colorado: A Civil War Perspective
Published in Hardcover by Univ of Oklahoma Pr (Trd) (August, 1989)
Average review score:

Lots of factsThis book contains lots of facts gleaned from many sources; unfortunately, the story does not flow smoothly because the author frequently jumps around in time and subject. The book's emphasis is on Denver and the big mining towns (places that published newspapers), providing an interesting perspective of what the early settlers did (and endured) to bring their civilization to the Colorado territory during the years 1859-1865.

Boulder Hiking Trails : The Best of the Plains, Foothills, and Mountains (3rd ed)
Published in Paperback by Pruett Publishing Co. (15 July, 2002)
Average review score:

Pretty Good But Poor MapsI liked the variety of trails in this book, as I am interested in only the Boulder area right now. However, the maps in the book are fairly poor illustrations that aren't very helpful, and can be confusing at times. All in all, I'd give it a 3.5 if that was possible score here...
